Irvine Math Project, Inquiry, & Growth Mindset
I was trained in 3 units and helped pilot the Irvine Math Project. This math curriculum emphasizes an engaging inquiry approach to math concepts. Students use manipulative and real word situations to solve mathematical problems. I taught all lessons within a growth mindset framework. Mistakes are encouraged, honored, and seen as an opportunity for learning and brain growth.
Cognitively Guided Mathematics
Please scroll through images from my mathematics lessons in the gallery above. Click on an image to see it in full screen with corresponding captions. There are three charts depicted in my gallery. These charts use both numbers and words to answer the essential question and each lesson. Examples of inquiry problems are also depicted with student work. Utilizing an inquiry approach in math allows students to authentically discover mathematical concepts in context to make meaning of the content. I also utilized the Cognitively Guided Mathematics approach by focusing on the language used in math. I did this by questioning students and asking them to tell me what to do next to guide whole-class instruction.
