An Interdisciplinary Unit on Childhood Obesity
About this Unit
This unit was created with lessons and activities to be presented to a 3rd grade class. However, teachers can alter aspects of this unit to be appropriate for 2nd or 4th graders. This unit incorporates Mathematics, Language Arts, Vocabulary, Health, Science, Art, Physical Education, Dance, and Reading Comprehension. The time period alotted for this unit is approximately one month. It was designed for the month of September, Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Resources were taken from First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move Campaign, along with the website suggested it called Choose My Plate.

The Purpose of this Unit
The goal is to educate children in an interdisciplinary manner to help them see childhood obesity from different perspectives and disciplines. This will enable them to be educated so that they can make positive personal decisions in hopes of preventing or lowering childhood obesity rates. This goal is important so that children can live healthy lives, be less prone to disease, and not have to worry about paying resulting medical costs.
