Week 2

Week 2 will build on nutrition concepts learned during Week 1 and will use that information to build on this week’s assignments

Cost of a Healthy Meal

On the first day of Week 2, your teacher will teach you about food portions.  Your assignment is to calculate the cost of a healthy meal.  Using math concepts previously learned throughout the year, add up the ingredients used to cook a tasty and healthy meal.  The costs of the ingredients will be listed on a worksheet given to you by your teacher, along with some suggestions for recipes.

Food Log

Your assignment for Day 2, Week 2 is to fill out a food log throughout the entire day.  Write down everything in you ate today in the food log. At the end of the day look at what you ate and compare it to what you have learned so far about foods and nutrition.  Write a paragraph on what you noted and bring it to class the next day.  You can also use the website located on the button to the left to track your food electronically.

"Snack of Champions"

For Day 3, you will be completing a project from the Choose My Plate website.  You will work in groups to create the ideal snack for an olympic athlete, by filling out the worksheet and using the concepts about food and nutrition you have learned so far in this unit. You will then present your findings to the class.

Draw your Perfect Meal

Next, you will be showing what you have learned about food groups, nutrition, and portions so far.  You will use your art skills to draw and decorate this worksheet also found on Choose My Plate. Draw your perfect meal that includes foods you like and that incorporates the different food groups.  You can use paint, markers, colored pencils, or crayon to draw your foods.

"Move Your Body Dance"

Finally, you will start to learn the dance from the "Move Your Body" music video by Beyonce.  This video was created as part of First Lady Michelle Obama's Lets Move Campaign.  By learning and practicing the dance, you are getting good and fun exercise. Your teacher will help you start learning the choreography, and you will perform this in front of the whole school at the end of the unit. You can watch the video here when you want to practice.
