Week 3

Students will use science, math and writing activities in order to review health and nutrition concepts learned thus far in the unit.  At the end of this week, students will have a test on the concepts they have learned in the unit so far. 

Science Experiment

To start reviewing the food and health concepts you have learned so far in this unit, you will perform a science experiment. After hearing your teacher explain the steps of the Scientic Method, you will use it to hypothesize how much added sugar there is in different foods and drinks. There will be examples of different foods and drinks for you to observe set throughout the room.  You will have to go around the room and use the Scientific Method to make an educated guess about how much added sugar there is.  Fill out the worksheet provided by your teacher to keep track of your steps of the Scientific Method in the experiment.

Writing a Magazine Article

On the second review day, you will write a magazine article discussing an imaginary new food. In this assignment explain the its importance and nutritional value. Be sure to also describe how the food looks using descriptive words and adjectives. Ask your teacher how long the article should be. You can use the worksheet from My Plate as a guide.

Cooking Measurement Worksheet

On Wednesday, students will learn how to add and subtract fractions during their math lesson. To practice adding and subtracting, they will complete a worksheet. The worksheet will have word problems that have students adding or subtracting measurements in healthy cooking recipes. In this worksheet, you will also learn the different types of cooking measurements.

Review

Today your teacher will be reviewing all of the concepts you have learned so far in this Unit. 

Test

Finally, on the last day of Week 3 students will have a test on the Nutrition concepts you have learned so far in this unit. This includes food groups, nutrition, and healthy portion sizes.
